Overview

This month, our program focused on delivering comprehensive lessons in English, conflict resolution, leadership skills, and facilitating engaging children’s play and education activities. We also hosted several meetings, managed financial contributions, and welcomed visitors to our center.

Overview:
This month, our Children’s Play Program focused on integrating creative arts and physical activity to foster both cognitive and physical development. Children engaged in a variety of structured and unstructured play activities designed to promote creativity, teamwork, and physical health.
This report provides a comprehensive overview of the activities and outcomes of the Children’s Play Program for the specified month, highlighting the engagement and development of the children participating in the program.

Challenges: lack of play material

Notes for Parents: – We encourage and psycho-educate parents on children rights and wellbeing, and for them to send their children to play with others for their development.


ENGLISH, LEADERSHIP AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Total Enrolled: 30 women

– Average Daily Attendance: 25

– Highest Attendance: 30

– Lowest Attendance: 20

Topics Covered:

1. Introduction to DES

2. Introduction to Eco village          

3. Introduction to Damanhur Education

4. Introduction to dignity model from Donna Hicks.

Class Activities:

– Engaged in group discussions about violence and its advantages in various scenarios.

– Participated in role-play exercises.           

– Analyzed case studies on violence.


BASIC ENGLISH COURSE

Topic Covered:

1. Alphabet

Class Activities:

– Reading and writing alphabet

Key Learnings:

– Improved understanding and usage of English Alphabet in writing, reading and speaking.

– Enhanced ability to comprehend and analyze written texts.

– Developed skills in writing structured and clear sentence for effective communication.

General Comments:

The month was highly productive, with students showing great engagement and improvement in both courses. The practical exercises in the Leadership and Conflict Resolution course allowed students to directly apply theoretical concepts, enhancing their learning experience. Similarly, the interactive activities in the Basic English Course have significantly contributed to students’ language skills development.


MEETINGS

Staff Meeting: we had meetings, on 19/01/2024 whereby we discussed:

– Curriculum development and identified areas for education improvement in student engagement strategies:

– To look for volunteers to work on the activities.

– Graduation of leadership & conflict resolution and English students 03/02/2024.

– To request partnership with local NGOs

Parent-Teacher Meeting: we had meetings, on 26/01/2024 whereby we discussed:

 –   Curriculum development and identified areas for education improvement in student engagement strategies.

– To look for volunteers to work on the activities.

– Contribution from parents to motivate volunteers, as we do not have funds for support. Parents agreed to contribute 50 ksh = $ 0.3 per month for volunteers spending time with children.

– Collaboration between parent and Teachers to ensure a smooth learning of the children.


CHALLENGES

– Resource Limitations: We are experiencing a shortage of basic level English books and educational toys for our children’s play area, lack of chairs, office for management board work space, financial motivation for volunteers, Wi-Fi network.

Volunteer Shortages: A decrease in volunteer availability due to lack of financial motivation has impacted our ability to offer personalized attention during activities.

Support Requests

– Educational Resources: Seeking donations of English books, educational toys and play materials.

Volunteer Recruitment: Financial assistance to recruiting volunteers with expertise in English education and child development.

Technical Solutions: Looking for experienced people for affordable solutions to enhance the engagement of our management and virtual learning environment.


VISITORS

Local NGO (Danish Refugee Council): Visited our center to observe the implementation of our leadership and conflict resolution program.

– Community Leaders: Visited our center seeking for collaboration with the students for coming together when solving conflicts in the community

CONCLUSION

This month showcased the impactful work being done in our program, alongside the challenges we face in resources and engagement. We are actively seeking support to overcome these hurdles and continue providing high-quality education and development opportunities to our children, women and community. We remain committed to our mission and look forward to the continued support from our community and partners.
