Digital literacy for young girls in Kakuma is an emerging priority, recognizing the importance of equipping girls with the skills to navigate and utilize digital technologies effectively. Digital literacy encompasses the ability to use digital devices, understand digital content, and engage with online platforms safely and responsibly.

In Kakuma, efforts to promote digital literacy among young girls involves introducing them to basic computer skills, internet usage, and digital communication tools. Programs often include interactive and hands-on activities that help girls become comfortable with technology. For instance, initiatives may involve teaching girls how to use educational software, conduct online research, and understand the basics of coding and programming.

Women And Girls’ Support Groups And Mentorship / Vikundi vya Usaidizi wa Wanawake na Wasichana na Ushauri

Women And Girls

Women and girls in our community face unique challenges. They need a dedicated space to connect and support one another. In our women and girls support group, participants gather in a safe environment where they can share their experiences, celebrate important life passages, and build lasting bonds of sisterhood.

The women and girls who join us receive emotional support and practical guidance. They engage in meaningful discussions about their journeys, traditions, and hopes for the future. They learn from one another’s wisdom and strength. They participate in activities that honor their heritage while building new skills for their current circumstances. Most importantly, they find community and understanding among others who share similar experiences.

Participants discover renewed confidence and resilience and develop leadership skills and support networks that extend beyond our meetings. They celebrate milestones together—from coming of age ceremonies to personal achievements. In this space, every woman and girl is valued, heard, and empowered to shape her own path forward.
Through connection and shared understanding, we create strength. Through honoring our experiences, we build hope for tomorrow.

Loan Circle And Small Business Financing / Mzunguko wa Mkopo na Fedha za Biashara Ndogo

The women formed a group that collected money from its members and used it to support each other’s business start-ups. Each month, at least one woman obtained enough money to begin her business. During the months when sufficient funds were collected, the group provided funding for two members.

Livelihood Skills / Ujuzi wa Riziki

Women in our community participate in comprehensive training that opens doors to economic opportunities and financial independence. Here, participants learn practical skills that enable them to create their own income and build sustainable livelihoods.

The women who join us receive hands-on training in entrepreneurship and business management. They learn to sew and tailor clothing, operate printing services, and serve customers with confidence and professionalism. They develop budgeting skills, understand how to manage inventory, and practice effective customer relations. Each participant gains both technical abilities and the business knowledge needed to succeed.

Those who complete our program are equipped to start their own small businesses. They have learned to create quality products, manage their finances, and build relationships with customers. Some women have opened tailoring shops that support their families.

Through practical training and business education, we create pathways to independence. Through skill-building and mentorship, we build foundations for lasting economic empowerment.
