Food Security in Kakuma: DES Celebrates Support from COHERE

Spread the love

Development and Empowerment of Society (DES) and the communities we serve in Kakuma, extend our heartfelt gratitude to COHERE for their generous donation of water tanks.

It was with great excitement that our volunteers guided the water tanks donated by Cohere to their home in the DES Food Forest. The tanks will go a long way to support food security in the camp.

A Thriving Food Forest = Better Food Security

As our name implies, Development and Empowerment of Society encourages greater self-reliance and a better quality of life within the community. COHERE also works to unlock the potential of refugees. Its mission is to help displaced people determine their future on their own terms.

The DES Food Forest Livelihood Project has helped many families survive the drastic reductions in food rations implemented over the past year. However, water availability has been a problem from the start due to Kakuma’s dry and arid temperatures. The arrival of a tank in which we can collect and conserve water is cause for celebration. This would not have been possible without COHERE’s support.

Kakuma refugee food security is threatened during prolonged water shortage.
Water shortages caused crops to wilt and slowly die, threatening farmers’ ability to feed themselves and the families they serve.

We say a big THANK YOU to everyone who believed in this vision and stood with us! Let our story of resilience and self-determination continue. Together, we can transform lives, restore the environment, and continue to build sustainable food systems for our community.

Water conservation can help our farmers grow plentiful crops, thereby ensuring greater food security.

No support is too small. Your solidarity can save lives and restore hope to families who have lost almost everything. Please share widely and give others the opportunity to help.
